Canadian techno producer Jesse Somfay has released “Joy Gem”, his first original track since 2013. Pulling sounds and inspirations from his song “Small Pebbled Forest”, Somfay manages to blend a groovy bassline with ambient and angelic tones, creating powerful waves of emotion throughout. “Joy Gem” will be available for a free download via Bandcamp through Tipping Hand; an emerging experimental electronic label based in LA.
For Jesse Somfay, music is high bandwidth communication. Composing both under his given name, and his pseudonym Borealis, Jesse’s primary focus is translating and sharing, through music, powerful emotions and experiences which cannot easily be defined. Somfay was exposed to music and the arts throughout his childhood. This combination of early musical experimentation and exposure to emotional music rooted itself in Jesse’s mind and would later appear as he found electronic dance music.
In 2009 Somfay released his album A Catch in the Voice (Archipel), widely considered his best work. The album went on to gain positive reviews. Having released his work through reputable techno labels Traum Schallplatten, Archipel, and Detroit Underground, Somfay has made a name for himself crafting emotive ballads, blending minimal techno with soundscapes reminiscent of the electronic label Border Community.
